Gun laws are not in place to stop violent crime, they are in place to stop PEOPLE DYING! So the more accurate stat would be deaths per violent crime. If marijuana was legalized and we didn’t have beer advertisements on every 10 seconds, violent crime would go down. You gun nuts are an embarrassment…bugger off with that none sense.

the reason cops dont get funding is because cops do a fucking shitty job serving their communities, and those communities vote against funding them.
American policy leads the way on a lot of issues (hence one of the main reasons why I as an Australian follow US politics so closely), when Obama came out in support of gay marriage, the debate MASSIVELY picked up in Australia.
I have no idea if fear of upsetting America is a major reason for our policy, I’d say it’s more maintaining the status quo. An Australian party is pushing for decrim of personal use called the Australian Sex Party (the name is due to their anti porn censorship stance).

It has nothing to do with guns, it has everything to do is binge drinking culture. When I go out into the city nobody is worried about guns, we are worried about drunk fools attacking you with first because you look at them the wrong way or they think they were flirting with their girl. Portugal decriminalized consumption and the Netherlands legalized it. They’re still a part of NATO. The biggest delayer of legalization is and will be the US and their lobby groups (Tobacco, Alcohol, For-Profit Prisons, Catholic Church and the Pharmacy Industry)

My only problem with this is the “no-one has ever died of smoking pot” for a start its difficult to gauge what killed someone when the cause wasn’t immediate. smoking kills people but they don’t just drop dead it causes an increased risk of certain things.
Second, no matter how innocuous the thing is, someone esomewhere is stupid enough to die from it.

Oakland PD just hired the man that came up with Stop & Frisk tactics. Oakland has some of the same problems with it’s police. Plus, they had a 30 million dollar budget problem that fired 300 cops.
I just can’t see how MJ can possibly stay criminalized for the rest of the US if New York changes their laws. That’s going to be the tipping point, I think.

always vote against funding for police. when you see racism, planting evidence, giving tickets for things that dont put anyone in danger, etc, this means the cops are paid way too much, and there are way too many of them. i always vote against funding police. half the time, they really dont serve the community.

Hey Anna, it seems like you have yet to make the connection between private prisons and the drug war. It is easier to manage a nonviolent employee(prisoner) than a violent criminal. Cheap labor=more profit for the shareholders with interest in the products produced by the prisoners. Check it out.
