Hiya Rodalco. In this experiment, I actually wired the electronics ‘backwards’ (i.e. I put mains into the lamp output connections 😀 ) & amazingly it didn’t pop.
Then, upon examining things I noticed that while I was tightening up the connector strips that one of the wires must’ve moved as I was doing up the screw & it clamped on the insulation. D’oh! 🙁
I’ve already had another couple of goes at this, & I’ll be loading the vids up over the next week so you can see how things go. 🙂

You need a higher Voltage source!!!!!
I cant believe that didnt pop! Maybe try wiring up the leads to the electrolyitic 🙂

Yes, ac to the elco will pop it.
It won’t pop as basically it will accept the 240V but no lamp to light up. Use your variac with an external TX and step voltage up to 440 Volts.
