Yep, love mine. I calibrate it like once every 1-2 months. 1x a week is overkill man 🙂 As long as you keep it in pH electrode storage solution and has batteries in it, you should be good for longer.
Wow… that’s sad if Hanna introduced a cheaper quality model, trying to capitalize on their rep. But, I guess that’s the nature of business, and if competitors are bringing garbage to market, then I suppose it behooves them to do likewise, just to stay in the game.
But I agree; if they have a low-budget model, don’t waste time on it. Spend the extra on quality, and it’ll pay off in the long run.
$20 Hanna???? I’ve NEVER seen those… Mine cost me over $100 15 years ago, and it STILL works like a champ (even though that is well beyond the design limits) 😉
Great video bro!!! At lower nutrient concentrations I use enzyme to decrease pH by a tenth or two. Thanks for the report in the pen too, VERY helpful. Just retired my 3rd Hanna combo meter ($200) in as many years and got a blue lab combo meter which I love. Always like to have a back up (double checker) pH pen to rule out quirky calibration issues I’ve run into in the past. Thank you for helping me find the model, oakden pH 2, here we come. Happy gardening!!!
Its also good to cover you PH spectrum because some things uptake better at different levels. I try to feed everywhere from 5.8-6.2
Btw Great idea. Episodes are definitely going to be easier to cataloge and reference.
7.5 would be too high for soil. You want to be from 6.3-6.8. I think you mean the $20 milwaukee pens. The cheapest hannah is like $40 or so I believe.
I love my oakton, hardly ever even have to calibrate it. Great pen so far. I’ve used the strips and 2 of the cheap $10 chinese yellow ones. Good video.
This is more like what I want to see. Not just grow tips, and basic grow stuff, but also product reviews. I’ve been looking on growers house at all the ph testers, and there are a half-billion of them. I’ll get this pen! Thanks man!

Everything I do is within Sony Vegas. I look up tutorials on youtube and go from there more or less. Thanks for the compliment!
Totally agree about going with the oakton. I’ve got the same one. I calibrate 1x a week and it’s never off more than .1
7.5 is a little high, 6.3 – 6.8 is where i stick depending on how much organic material there is in the mix.
Can get them on amazon for under $20 actually. I think the cheapest Hannah might be $30 or so. Yep, a good quality pen will last you awhile!

Oh! What do you use to make your leader screens? I dig the new fly-in text!

thanks man, I’m trying!
Nice, this is my purpose with this series. The Oakton is solid and will keep calibrated. Get some pH electrode storage solution as well,
