Depends on what the actual therapy is. There is a pill form of THC called drabinol, used for cancer patients to increase their appetite. Most people are very cautious about the prescribing of it (for pain/end of life), and the cases I’ve heard of use a non-smoking form (ie, addition to foods, such as Rice Krispie Treats or the ubiquitous brownies)
Well you can’t pick this presciption up at the pharmacy. You have to buy it off the streets but carry the permit. And you smoke it

Then jury’s still out on this, but apparently there are medical strides in marijuana in treatment for glaucoma (since it’s a depressant, I guess because it helps relax the muscles in the eyes) And as far as I know – you use it medicinally just as you would use it for recreation.
As far as a perception, I’ve seen it as pre-rolled joints in a prescription bottle – which I think is hilarious.
